Tennis Court Drying Timeline: Techniques to Speed it Up

In part one of this two-part blog series, we looked at some of the risks of a wet tennis court plus some of the factors that play into a tennis court’s drying timeline. What about if you’re looking to speed up this timeline and get back on the court sooner, though?

At Courts Unlimited, we’re happy to offer a huge range of residential and commercial tennis court surfacing, tennis court resurfacing and other sports surfacing solutions for clients around Utah. In today’s part two of our series, we’ll look at some tips from our pros on how to speed up the drying process for a tennis court and return to play faster – without any safety risks, naturally.

Water-Absorbent Materials

For starters, there are several materials you can incorporate into your tennis court surface that will help absorb excess water and aid in the drying process. Some popular options include:

  • Turf mats: These are special mats made from synthetic turf fibers that have been designed to quickly soak up water from a wet court surface. They’re also easy to remove and clean after use.
  • Court covers: Similar to tarps, these covers are specifically designed for tennis courts and can be placed over the entire surface during periods of rain or heavy moisture.
  • Drying agents: There are various commercial products available that can be sprinkled onto a wet court surface to help dry it out faster.

Proper Airflow

Another key factor in drying a tennis court quickly is proper airflow. This can be done in a few different ways:

  • Fans: Large fans placed around the court can help circulate air and speed up the drying process.
  • Blowers: Similar to fans, blowers are specifically designed for moving air and can be used to target specific areas of the court that are wetter than others.
  • Natural breeze: If possible, try to take advantage of any natural breezes or winds in your area by positioning the court in a way that allows for maximum airflow.

Sun Exposure

As we discussed in part one, sunlight is a crucial factor in drying out a wet tennis court. So if you’re looking to speed up the process, make sure to take advantage of any sunny days. Additionally, consider trimming back any nearby trees or foliage that may be blocking sunlight from reaching the court.

Proper Maintenance

Lastly, proper maintenance and upkeep of your tennis court can also play a significant role in how quickly it dries after rain or moisture. Regular cleaning and resurfacing can help prevent water buildup and prolong the life of your court surface.
