Utah Tennis Court Net Care: Setup and Initial Themes

While caring for your court surface itself will naturally be one of the more important upkeep areas you think about for any tennis court you’re installing, it’s vital to remember that other components of these courts need care as well. One great example: Your netting setup, which needs some periodic attention to ensure it’s aligned properly and isn’t dealing with wear-and-tear or other issues.

At Courts Unlimited, we’re happy to offer a wide range of both commercial and residential tennis court options for Utah clients, plus expertise on how to care for every component of their court and get the most out of it. In this two-part blog series, we’ll go over all the basic maintenance elements you should be considering for your tennis court nets – today’s part one will look at some setup and initial themes that are important here, while part two will dig into periodic inspections and how to avoid long-term issues arising with your nets.

Evenly Spreading the Net

When you’re first installing your netting, it’s vital to make sure you spread these materials evenly and in proper tension across the entire court. This will help avoid any sagging or other issues developing over time, plus offers a flat surface area on which the ball can bounce properly when play is underway.

Additionally, look for a particular set of measurements when doing this, including a 10-foot spacing between the two poles that are used to hold the net. It should extend approximately three feet off the ground and be maintained with consistent tension throughout, or else balls could start bouncing over it without warning during matches.

Fasteners and Anchors

To prevent the net material from becoming fatigued and loosened over time, proper fasteners and anchors are essential. Look for solid steel materials that can hold the net in position without any bending or warping happening, plus check the anchors every so often to make sure they’re still secure and not becoming loose due to shifts in the soil material below.

Finally, if you want an extra layer of protection against any net slippage due to these anchors, putting up a small windscreen material along the top of the net is another great way to add both an aesthetic element and some added security.

Securing Netting Barriers

Speaking of barriers, if you’re installing any of these materials for your court, it’s good to look into the right types that can withstand heavy winds or other conditions. Doing this will help prevent them from becoming damaged due to weather and ensure they remain as a secure barrier to protect against errant balls heading off-court.

By taking care of all these elements during setup and then continuing to pay attention to them over time, you can avoid any issues arising with the netting on your court – helping ensure a secure and safe playing surface for years to come.

In our next blog post, we’ll dig into some of the periodic areas you should be inspecting with regard to your nets to avoid long-term issues.
