Utah Home Basketball Court Budget: Site Prep, Materials Used

Budgeting for any major project on your property is naturally going to be important, and installation of a residential basketball court is no exception. What are the key elements that you should be thinking about as you create and manage your budget within this sort of project?

At Courts Unlimited, we’re happy to offer the best selection of residential basketball courts in Utah, providing clients with the top materials, installation services and more. In this two-part blog series, we’ll go over all the areas to consider as you go about budgeting for your residential basketball court installation.

Site Prep and Access

First and foremost, a key factor that will play a big role in the cost of installing your residential basketball court will be the amount of site prep and access required. If you have a large, level area that is readily accessible, it will obviously require less work – and therefore be less expensive – than if you have a smaller or hillier area that is more difficult to access.

On the flip side, if the area you hope to install your court on is currently being used for something else, such as a garden or storage shed, you will need to factor in the cost of having that existing structure removed before the installation can begin. In some cases, our team may also need to level out the playing surface or do some other minor site prep work in order to create an ideal environment for the court.

All of these factors will need to be taken into account when budgeting for your residential basketball court installation.

Material Selection and Engineering

Next up, the materials you select for your court – as well as the necessary engineering to support those materials – will also play a role in the overall cost of the project.

For example, a concrete base is going to be less expensive than an asphalt base, but an asphalt base will provide a smoother, more consistent playing surface. As such, it’s important to consider not only the cost of the materials themselves, but also how those materials will impact the quality and performance of your court.

It’s also important to think about any other related materials that might be required. These could include retaining walls, drainage systems, fencing, backboards, hoops and more.

Again, all of these factors will need to be considered when budgeting for your residential basketball court. This is especially true if you have any specific performance or aesthetic requirements in mind.

In part two of our series, we’ll go over some further considerations that play a role in your budget for your residential basketball court.
