Debunking Tennis Misconceptions: Costs and Cold Weather

While we wish it were not the case, there are a few harmful myths out there about the wonderful sport of tennis that should be avoided. These misconceptions might even prevent some people from trying out tennis for the first time or enjoying it in other ways, and they really don’t serve anyone.

At Courts Unlimited, we’re here to not only offer a wide range of residential and commercial tennis courts, but also to provide clients with the proper information on our courts, the sports they allow for and more. We’ve heard many of the silliest myths out there about tennis and tennis courts, and we’re here to debunk them and ensure you have the right info. Let’s do so in this two-part blog series.

Myth #1: Tennis Itself is Too Expensive

We can at least understand where this myth comes from. Because tennis is often seen in places like country clubs and other places that aren’t open to the public, we might assume that this is a sport that only the rich and famous can afford.

While it’s true that you probably need to be in a higher income bracket if your goal is to play at such clubs (and even more so if you plan on joining!), tennis doesn’t have to be as expensive as you might think. If all you want to do is play tennis at home, for example, there are many ways to arrange an affordable setup.

Myth #2: Tennis Courts Are Too Expensive

Even among those who are aware that you can build a tennis court on your property, there’s a misconception that such courts are very costly and not really worth the cost. They might think this due to seeing professional courts, which can indeed be extremely expensive.

It’s true that some of our more complex designs for tennis courts may be a bit on the high end in regards to price, but we do have a range of options available that won’t break the bank. Furthermore, we provide clients with a free consultation and estimate so they can choose the court that best fits their needs without having to worry about financial restrictions.

Myth #3: Outdoor Tennis Courts Don’t Work in Cold Weather

A lot of people think playing tennis outside is great for warm weather but quickly becomes hazardous once winter rolls around. After all, we tend to think of outdoor tennis courts, and we’re conditioned to associate them with hot temperatures.

While it’s true that cold weather can make playing on some courts a bit more difficult (even potentially dangerous), this isn’t always the case! Many people will still head out onto their courts throughout the winter months for some good old-fashioned fun, even if they have to bundle up. These same players will often come back for more when winter’s over.
